The Water Dancer delves into magical realism and familiar themes of justice, humanity, freedom, and equality. Ta-Nehisi Coates sets his debut novel in pre-Civil War Virginia. Though the prose is excellent and interesting, I found the story largely forgettable.
Letters From Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favorite books I've read all year! It's so sweet. I love Santa stories and Tolkien, so it was an obvious read for me.
The Summer Tree by Guy Gavriel Kay is probably one of my least favorite books I've read in recent years. It's not good. I hate it even though my best friend loves it.
Fire and Blood by George R. R. Marting is a testament to his genius. It takes an incredible mind to flesh out a fantastical history from nothing. I'm sad to see Game of Thrones last episode tomorrow night. I'll need to find a new obsession. Also I had a lot of fun dressing up in a burgundy ball gown.
