The Water Dancer delves into magical realism and familiar themes of justice, humanity, freedom, and equality. Ta-Nehisi Coates sets his debut novel in pre-Civil War Virginia. Though the prose is excellent and interesting, I found the story largely forgettable.

Here’s a bunch of reviews for all the fiction I read.
Christmas at Thompson Hall & Other Christmas Stories by Anthony Trollope
Anthony Trollope is an amazing novelist. He brings so much empathy and intensity to the crazy characters filling his stories.
Christmas in London by Anita Hughes
Christmas in London by Anita Hughes isn't a good book, but it's not the worst I've ever read. It's definitely full of the romantic clichés people have come to expect at the holidays....
Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella is one of those novels, where I hate the character but I love what Kinsella does... I think. There's more to it than shopping!
Letters From Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien
Letters From Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien is one of my favorite books I've read all year! It's so sweet. I love Santa stories and Tolkien, so it was an obvious read for me.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson has a soft spot in my heart because I played Imogene Herdman in the play version as a child, but this is the first time I read the book. I loved it!!! It's a great story for children, but it is still poignant and nuanced.
